Jim Lake Jr. es un estudiante común y corriente que habita en la pequeña y perfecta ciudad Arcadia. Un día, mientras se dirige hacia la escuela, el chico tropieza con lo que parece ser un amuleto místico, e inesperadamente termina por descubrir toda una civilización de trolls vivientes bajo el mundo que él conoce. Jim se verá inmerso en una batalla entre el bien y el mal, donde su papel como guerrero asegurará a toda su especie, por lo que tendrá que encontrar un equilibrio entre la escuela y su misión.
